Been using this app for a long time now, but recently it has become unusable. The widget usually crashes and doesn't display any news articles, then if you try and open the app nothing shows up. I try clearing the cache and restarting my phone and this sometimes resolves the issues, but only briefly. I've always had it on current phone models (currently on Samsung S21), so it must be the app causing the issues, rather than hardware.

More often than not this app fails to work at all and when it does many individual news articles fail to load. I expect better from a media outlet that has made it law for people to subscribe to it. Why can't we choose what tv we pay for? I also feel particularly offended when they refer to their 'reality check' articles, which have often been found to be incorrect - I'm sorry BBC but you are not an authority on the truth!

Gets slower & less responsive with each update. I spend most of my time staring at a blank screen waiting for stories to load. Wish I'd stuck with the version from 4yrs ago. I'm sick of links disguised as articles that take you out of the app & trivial stories that remain in Top Stories for weeks on end. Also framing news as questions is juvenile & pathetic. But the most egregious crime is the epidemic of fake and biased news and the government propaganda. SHAME ON YOU.

I'm not sure what's happened in the last two days but the app doesn't appear to be responsive. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled twice but it's not loading - it just hangs on the BBC logo page and that's it. Has there been a recent update or something? Thanks

Really easy to use, ad-free, reliable, trusted source of news and information, unbiased and balanced. I use BBC News app daily to get news online, national, regional, local and world. See photos, videos or read in brief or long, with analysis by correspondants. I have set topics of interest. It can alert me to any breaking news. And at no extra cost. Keep the BBC free from commercial and political interference. It protects our democractic freedom.

  6. James Bell-avatar

Over time the quality of this app has really declined, tiles taken up by videos and links disguised as articles, it has becomevery clear that there is nobody in the office during the weekend as frequency of updates even on important stories slows right down, and to be honest a lot of stuff is poorly disguised promotion for things that the BBC has a stake in or an interest in driving conversation around.

  7. neural jam-avatar

The high quality of the BBC's journalism is unfortunately not matched by the quality of the phone app - I'm constantly having to force stop it and clear the cache, otherwise when I select a notification I'm just met with a red screen with the BBC news logo, and nothing else happens. It's been like this for some time, I hope they fix this at some point! (Android 10 on a Samsung S9)

  8. Adrian Lord-avatar

    Adrian Lord

Old news hangs around too long. The news reports are some times long winded. A bit too much padding on some occasions. On a number of occasions there is no followup to what happend afterwards. But they will throw in a new story that leaves you wondering what was the point. World news is history when the BBC report it. Appart from that, its sometimes worth while. But I'm loosing interest a dconfidence in the BBC news. They also don't report what you might want to know .

  9. Sue-avatar

When I first installed the app it was excellent, always my "go to" for up to date news. Now it takes forever to load and sometimes will not load at all . I have now had to install ITV news, not my favourite but much less frustrating. I tried uninstalling BBC News and reinstalling but although it was ok for a short time, yet again it now takes forever.

Incomplete mess. Basic news app that doesn't have enough recent news, infact the trending section shows 2 items from 2021 and the rest from 2020 or earlier. Don't even bother with the "new" interface option as it removes all settings including custom favourite topics (My News) and requires you to login. Looks like the app was written by an intern as they couldn't be bothered.
