Unlike both the Android app on the phone, and the web browser viewer, there's no way to specify HD resolution instead of 4K resolution on some content (e.g. The Electrical Life of Louis Wain). As a result, you can burn up 8x the bandwidth in 4K vs. 2K, which is a big problem if you have a bandwidth limit. This is idiotic and inept, and needs to be fixed immediately. Of course, given the number of bad reviews, and the fact that it's a captive audience, don't hold your breath.

Video playback is decent, but none of the controls work. Can't pause, fast forward, rewind, etc. The only way to stop playback is to click the home button and exit the app entirely, which of course loses the playback location. So, when you re-open the app, the video you were just watching starts back from the very beginning. Very disappointing. Every other Android TV app works just fine - Netflix, Hulu, etc.

It was working fine up until this week on my Chromecast with Google TV. For whatever reason, it now doesn't want to load videos unless I reboot the device first, and then it only works until I exit and open another app on the device. Once another app is opened, a reboot of the device is needed again to get it to work. And, it seems to take forever to actually load the video before it starts, when it does work. Not sure what changed, but it's not good.

I thought the recent announcement from Amazon/Google said Prime would be made available on other Android TV devices but the MiBox S (MiBox 4) is still showing as not compatible. I'm glad that casting Prime from the mobile app to the MiBox now works but I miss the ease of using a built-in Android TV app and a remote. The Prime app works well on the Shield but most people don't have $170 to put a Shield on every tv. Please add the MiBox S one the compatible device list for this app..

The app was recently updated and once you're inside a series, the UI is much better and easier to navigate. There wasn't an option to skip recaps or intros before but that was added in this last update. They also added the option to go back or forward by 10 seconds which is way better than how it used to be trying to rewind or skip just a few seconds. The reason I only gave it 2 stars is because now I cannot skip the ads that play before pretty much every episode. This ruins whatever else they just added.

To add to the heap of discontent with this red-headed stepchild of Prime Video apps, here is another Prime household who has been experiencing stutters, lags, freezes, blank video, no audio, and...hmmm...nope, that's "it". Really, Amazon, we pay for your products, pay for your services (Prime, Video, Music, Cloud), have your apps installed on various other Android devices, yet the one device purpose built and purchased for apps like your SPECIFICALLY BUILT 'Prime Video - ANDROID TV', has nothing but issues with it, and with no other app. Please. Fix the app. It's for most of our sanity.

Same problem as Jeff Hackman. The new version is unable to start streaming. I spend hours with Sony support, doing factory reset with no avail. I have attempted both wired and Wifi and this version will not run. However, when I connect via Wifi to Hotspot setup from my iPhone, streaming will work. I have also tapped into my neighbor's WIFI (AT&T) and it works fine. This tells me that the application probably does some network check and fails. However, any sensible software would print an error code to debug further. This application simply says "Something went wrong" with no other error code.

As MANY others have reported here, this app just refuses to work on Android TV. I have a brand new Sony TV that runs on Android TV, and the Prime Video app opens (very slowly, by the way), and lets you browse the menus, but it doesn't play any content, and then gives you a random error message, non-descriptive, and useless, that changes every time. The only way to make it work is to uninstall all updates and use the old version that came with the TV. And then the app gets updated and fails again. Awful, completely useless app! Every other streaming app works fine on Android TV (Netflix, Hulu, AMC, Peacock, etc.), so the problem is only with Prime Video.

I bought Nvidia Shield TV, and a major deciding factor is it appears to be the only Android TV OS set top box that has an official Amazon Prime Video app. This works flawlessly on my Shield. I was frustrated side-loading Prime on to other Android TV devices, and having audio drop outs, sync and other issues, but it is perfect on my Shield. Thank you so much Amazon for including this as a system app on Nvidia Shield TV !

Someone at Amazon needs to write a Jeff Memo about this app. It's embarrassingly bad. Launching it takes forever, very slow to navigate, often it will sometimes refuse to play at all. I expected to look at this app and see it hasn't been updated in two years. Nope, it was updated just two weeks ago. Is there any quality control, or does anyone read these reviews? Why bother wasting time with a release for an app that barely works? As others have mentioned, workaround is casting from the Prime app from your phone.
