This is probably the best interactive fiction I have ever experienced: choices have weight and impact, writing is vivid throughout, and worldbuilding is absolutely phenomenal. This is an IF that makes you scrutinize every decision and keeps you invested in the outcome. These are the easiest 5 stars I have given a CoG game, not even factoring in its great replayability. Its length definitely justifies the price; I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel.

I haven't played this one in at least a year or two, but it's likely the one CYOA game that sticks with me the most. I vividly recall staying up an entire night, as in 0 hours of sleep, play this story over and over again. The uniqueness of the world is stark and, I think, is what keeps it etched in my mind. The Harrowers are terrifying, and one of the few concepts that truly scare me, which is what makes this game so damn good; nothing else has done that to me. I'm glad to have finally found this game again, but I'm also distraught because now I have a child and need all the sleep I can get.......

I have played through a number of CYOA text games and this one is my favorite. The quality of the writing that goes far beyond most CYOA text games, the psychological elements of both the horror and trying to discover the traitor in your midsts, the world-building that goes beyond gimmick to flesh out a place that seems almost real, etc. I could go on for a long time about the strengths of the game, but I will just simply say it is the best IMHO, while I eagerly await the release of the sequel

The plot is meaningful and the characters are memorable. This has a resource management part in it that you can opt out of. I am very pleased with the writer for allowing you to opt out. Not everyone likes resource management games. The world is so unique that the first time you play you might not appreciate this game as much. You can be a wizard, a warrior, or a charismatic leader. Excellent replayability, the game changes dramatically based upon your choices. This story has a sequel too.

One of the best interactive books I've read. It does a really good job of completely immersing you in the world around you. While your choices have heavy impact there's a still a good balance of events and happenings that are left out of your control. Making the world and characters feel real and bringing more gravity to your own decisions. I'm really looking forward to part two.

Let me start by saying this game is NOT for everyone. It's kind of a slog, especially chapter 2, but if you get past that you'll find an intriguing world with tons of potential for future installments. My main critique is that you can go pages without making any choices, but luckily the writing is good enough that I didn't just skip these sections. Get this if you want a good, dark fantasy story with an expertly-crafted world and are ready to watch everything fall apart.

Absolutely incredible. Not since Choice of Robots have I found a CYOA game that greatly impacted me. Those considering this game should know that it's worth more than it is listed and should prepare themselves for a tense thrilling adventure where your choices matter, and evoke emotion. I eagerly await the sequel and cannot wait to read again.

Totally worth playing and replaying.. :) I was so pleasantly surprised at how many different ways this story could go. The characters are interesting, the horror of the Harrower is tangible... especially if you end up there in the end... Jesus.. or Xthonos in this case. ;) I absolutely recommend it. Can't wait for a sequel, because it left off in SUCH a good place in 2 scenarios out of... not sure how many times I've played this. ^_^ not looking to EVER revisit the Harrower ending. Ever. lol

I love these types of games. I've been addicted to then for a while now, but the only complaints i see on here are grammer related (which is constantly being worked on) and the fact that the rest of the book costs money(idk why this is a complaint) of course it's going to cost money. This is someones baby, the story they want to tell more than anything. Im more than happy to pay, its an amazing read and i look forward to the rest of the series.

A first rate interactive fiction. In fact, one of the finest examples of what IF on mobile can be. Strong storytelling in a detailed & richly imagined setting populated with complex & convincing characters & all of it very competently written. Impactful choices substantially reshape the narrative giving a robust sense of agency as well as superb replay value. Will be replaying this a 3rd & likely 4th time, while eagerly anticipating the next installment.
