The once mighty K-9 mail has fallen. For many, many years K-9 mail has had me covered. It had its rough edges but there was no reason to look for anything else. It was good. New developer. New redesign. And a whole lot of important features now no longer work or are just that much more harder to use. It is no longer practical for me to keep using this software. It forced me to look around for the first time in many years. Others might have taken the groundswell of protests and queries on how to downgrade and multiple offers of money to just go please back to how it was, as a reason to stop and rethink. But no. People were met either with requests to justify themselves, told by the developer that they must be persuaded before they will act, met with complaints about the issues having been raised already, or just plain ignored. Check the forums, it's scary. A bunch of people have escaped to FairEmail, and I did this today myself. FairEmail has an option to open to a summary view by default that shows all accounts with an account summary including unread count, a feature removed from K-9. There are probably other good options too. Good luck everyone.

Open source mail client, big plus for being open source. More secure that way than all those other "free" mail clients. K-9 works great and looks better with new ui, more in tune with how android is looking. I like it. Now I can even get my friends and family to use it, before it looked complicated so they didnt even try and instead looked for something easier.

Well tried to be patient, but I'm done using this formerly awesome program. Off to using FairEmail as they have a easy to use unified account, page. Easier cycling through emails, etc. Subtle things that aren't great but I can get used to it. Note to developers: user base for k9 aren't here for pretty icons.. We are more saavy and demand usability and functionality. Goodbye

K-9 has been my favorite mail app for years... right up until the July 2021 update. The new UI is truly awful. Many of the most common tasks are now far more difficult, and they've completely removed some functionality. (1) I can no longer specify custom notifications per account. I have to use either the loud, system-wide notification or no notification at all. (2) I can't poll for email more frequently than 15 minutes. (3) The delete (etc) buttons moved to the top of the screen, away from my thumb, requiring two hands to operate. (4) The app no longer opens to a summary page showing all the unread emails for all of my accounts. (5) Switching from one inbox to another inbox is more difficult and unintuitive. (6) It still doesn't support OAuth2 for my 2FA account. I'm going to try to reinstall the older version or find a different app.

I used to love this app, but the latest update has removed the features that I loved it for. I can no longer poll a server on demand, I can no longer open the app to the overview page showing me all my accounts with the number of new mails in each, and I can no longer select several messages from the inbox view of an account and delete them in one go. If I can't revert to the previous version I shall have to find something else. Oh sure, the new interface looks fine, but the functionality seems to have disappeared. If it's still there it's hidden somewhere.

The new UI is really terrible. The summary list view of all accounts was extremely nice and now requires several extra steps to make anything similar show up. The buttons at the bottom being missing now also requires too many extra steps to complete the same tasks as before. Other than having a "new look," there is nothing added by this redesign.

Used this happily for years. But the recent change adds nothing useful, and takes away great features (can't set the notification light color, can't set the vibration pattern). And on my wife's phone, as well as a friend's, it simply doesn't send outgoing mail. No warnings, no apparent errors, messages in the Sent folder. But nobody receives them. I might roll my version back, despite being cumbersome. Or I might look around for other options. In its current form, I don't recommend this app.

Well, that went downhill. The new interface is a shiny bauble, but less functional. When I open the app I don't want to go to the last inbox I was looking at. That makes no sense. The old default screen showing all 12 of my mailboxes, with new message count and flagged (starred) message count was more informative and I could view whichever mailboxes I wanted, in the order I wanted. It's always a backward step to require more keystrokes to achieve a result, and the new interface does exactly that. At least include an option in settings to choose the default opening screen, and PLEASE bring back the star count. That's how I know where the important messages are.

Latest upgrade is a step backwards. Hard returns in drafts which have to be manually removed, and default display of incoming mail is too small to read. Shame. This used to be a really good app. I may stay with it for now, but only because of the unified inbox feature. Tried to write to the developers about this before posting but only got a snarky automated response concluding with "Really, there's no point in trying!" Really? A good way to drive users away.

K9, listen to your users/clients... Bring back the old interface, bring back the accounts list!!! As it stands, K9 just descended into the average email client app. I'm uninstalling this version and reinstalling the previous version (and preventing it updating). I speak for a vast number of users when I say i want the next redesign to bring back the accounts list as opening screen đź‘Ť Otherwise, keep up the good work! And remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
