Handbook of Rocks is a free android application with the complete list of all rock types. Nearly all rocks can be classified according to their origin into three major groups. These divisions include igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. A few rocks are hybrid in nature. As the science of rocks (petrology) developed, many rock names were introduced into the scientific literature. Often a different name was assigned to every rock that showed a slight difference from any known rock. Geology Rocks - Handbook of Rocks provides a compendium of more than 800 rock types. Keep ROCKing, because I constantly update the app/list. Made by a Geologist for Geologists. MAIN FEATURES ► More than 4000 rock types; ► 22 diagrams useful for the identification of Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks; ► Minimalist design; ► Very fast and fully searchable; ► Basic details for each rock type. It's a description of rocks...I was hoping for a more informative version. It would be nice to be able for the app to utilize the users camera to take pictures of rocks so they may be identified. Also information on the different regions in which the rocks are found.

Good solid guide, just needs images and some more filter tools would be nice (say search by formation type, ie pegmatites). Still don't like adds at all though....but you need revenue...

I really enjoy using this app however sometimes information can be hard to understand as I see it.

This day and age and you don't have photo's? A teaching tool from before the camera? You cut that corner, what wouldn't you cut???No Thank you.

So far I am enjoying this app. I only wish there were pictures. As I have slot of rocks, etc... My Grandfather was a gemologist so I've always enjoyed rocks, gems and stones of all types. I collect rocks that are shaped like hearts & letters!! He went all over the world collecting! I have lived in California since I was a year old, (born in Connecticut) Are there any good places to find Garnet in this area, Chico? My Birthstone!! Thanks, I'll be checking the app out more real soon!!

My first experience learning about rocks and minerals online was good. I would like a search window with speller, contents, glossary, images, drawings, and diagrams, Munsell color descriptions, usage (building, landscaping, water skipping pebbles, medicine, etc.) references cited, suggested readings. I trust that you are working this way already. Thanks, Roc the Archaeologist.

Nice to use this app, that is usefull for earth sciences student ,but you may improve the quality, and start to tell about formations of geology in detail.

Well described not 2 lil, not 2 much info, nice an orderly everything well categorized. Useful zoom-enabled charts & diagrams, jus a tad disappointing no pics but thats ok, says both Rock AND mineral if that the case what they should do is make a sister app that mirrors this 1s platform; 1 dedicated to all Rock types, other 1 dedicated to all minerals just cuz the sheer volume of total #of minerals out there; B 2 much to have both in 1 app, would be either 2 crammed, confusing or 2 incomplete

Helpful but my daughther wants this app to have an ID camera because she doesn't know what type of rock is the one that she found recently. She thinks it's a kind of sedimentary rok because that kind is common, but she has some other thoughts for the rock's kind.

Useful comprensive handbook of rocks. Does not have an alphabetical index though, and lacks any field photos (description only). If any of these these 2 features were present, i would give it a higher rating
