Very good app for language learning. Although its quality does somewhat depend on your target language and your ability to find material for your language. The interface is a little frustrating at times. On the desktop version you cant highlight sentence like you can using the mobile version. Also, I think a settings to page words to "ignore" would be good.

I love the method used in this app. I have the paid version, because I am an adult. LingQ teaches through audio and reading, it has courses, news, stories, podcasts and other fun material to learn. I have tried Duolingo, Babel, Memrise, Pimslur and other less known apps. This one feels more natural to me and it allows you to go over content faster. Things that could be improved: 1) When I am working on a course, I would like a feature to review LingQ words that are only in that course.

This app has done more to help my language learning than anything else. The focus on comprehensible and interesting input is fantastic. After 2ish weeks of use, I can now listen and understand media in a language I'm A2 in. I never could before! Only issue is the SRS system. The listening exercises are read by a generated voice so the words are difficult to understand, and the SRS reviews build up a bit too much for my liking. I mostly ignore it 👍

there is a very high pitch voice in this app that does not work very well. Seems to be the built-in voice of Android and it is too fast and high pitched and you have to hit it twice to hear the whole word. Also, when you try to use the flash cards and they request you to type in your answer, it always says you are incorrect even if your answer matches the answer exactly. Also, It would be nice to know if this is Spanish from Spain or more like South American and Mexican type of spanish.

The app gives the user no way to unsubscribe from the paid version from within the app. Also if you sign up for the paid version through the app, then you cannot cancel via the web version. Very frustrating when dealing with payments, but a good learning tool if you stick with it.

  6. Benjamin Keep-avatar

    Benjamin Keep

Has a lot of features, so a little complicated to get used to. But one of the most interesting language learning options out there. Can read, listen, choose material that interests you. Flashcards also use a variety of modes (hear a word, see a word, see a blank in a sentence, see the meaning, etc.).

I really like this app. Its such a helpful tool for learning languages. I wish the app was more user-friendly. But the app does a really good job for what it was made for. And I love that i can add any files with text into LingQ. 😍

The app itself is a good idea, although you guys should hire a UX designer, the app has extremely bad experience, it's confusing and not welcoming for new users. A simple example, when you click an answer you need to click again on submit, other languages apps you just click on time.

  9. Holle Rodriguez-avatar

    Holle Rodriguez

The app is mostly great but I have been consistently struggling with a glitch that interrupts my learning. My text to speech language from my phone keeps switching to English when I lock my screen or switch to a different app. For example: sometimes when I am trying to hear the blue words (in German), my phone will read it in English, ignoring umlauts and word-final "e". From this same glitch it sometimes can't read Russian words at all. Is there a setting where I can fix this permanently?

  10. Orrin Ahola-avatar

I really don't understand why this app splits a sentences across pages, which guarantees you can't select text across both pages for creating a LingQ. It makes no sense. Having used this for about 2 months, I am rather torn. The idea is absolutely ingenious and it is so useful to learn, listen, read, look up words, track learning, and create phrase definitions as well. But the implementation is very finicky and some of the things the app does with sentences are bizarre. The UI is grating. Edit: You're telling me your coders can't parse a string, find the periods, and make sure a sentence doesn't span 2 pages? An you can't intelligently manage number symbols within a language? I could literally implement this for you. It is extremely easy.
