Muhammad Abdul Mun’im al-Khafaji dalam kitabnya al-Adab fi at-Turats as-Sufi mengemukakan kisah yang melatar belakangi penyusunan Burdah yang pada awalnya berjudul al-Kawakib al-Durriyah yang berarti bintang-bintang yang bergemerlap. Kasidah ini dikarang oleh seorang sya’ir dan juga sufi dari Busir yang dikenal dengan nama Maulana al-Busiri. Wafat pada tahun 696 H, beliau hidup di dua masa kekuasaan Islam di Mesir yaitu Dinasti Ayyubiyah dan kekuasaan Mamalik. Sya’ir bagi al-Busiri merupakan karya seni yang tidak dapat dipisahkan darinya. Syair gubahannya banyak bercorak pujian (madh) atas Nabi sehingga ia dijuluki Madih ar-Rasul.

Kasidah Burdah merupakan kasidah terpopuler dibandingkan kasidah beliau yang lainnya. Kasidah ini disusun ketika beliau sedang menderita sakit stroke yang menyebabkan setengah badannya lumpuh.
Muhammad Abdul Mun'im al-Khafaji in his book al-Adab fi at-Turats as-Sufi told the story behind the compilation of the Burdah which was originally titled al-Kawakib al-Durriyah which means glittering stars. This Kasidah was composed by a poet and also a Sufi from Busir known as Maulana al-Busiri. Died in 696 AH, he lived during the reign of Islamic rule in Egypt, the Ayyubid Dynasty and Mamalik's rule. Sya'ir for al-Busiri is a work of art that cannot be separated from it. His composed poetry has a lot of praise (madh) on the Prophet so that he is nicknamed Madih ar-Rasul.

Kasidah Burdah is the most popular kasidah compared to his other. This Qasidah was compiled when he was suffering from a stroke which caused half of his body to become paralyzed.
