حسن زیرک با ضبط تعداد زیادی آوازهای سنتیِ مردم کرد، سبب حفظ و نگهداری این آثار فرهنگی از گزند فراموشی شد. از او بیش از ۱۰۰۰ ترانه و آواز به یادگار مانده‌ است.
زیرک، علاوه بر زبان کردی سورانی لهجه بوکانی، به زبان‌های فارسی، ترکی آذری، ارمنی، هَورامی - اورامی و لری نیز آواز اجرا کرده و دارای ۳ مقام ترکی، ۸ مقام فارسی و ۲ مقام اورامی است و ۶۴ مقام به زبان کُردی خوانده‌است.
حسن زیرک در ارکستر موسیقی کرد برادران یوسف‌زمانی، ارکستر مشیر همایون شهردار در تهران و ارکستر مجتبی میرزاده در کرمانشاه همکاری داشته و به اجرای برنامه پرداخته‌ است.
حسن زیرک نفوذ فرهنگی فوق‌العاده‌ای نه تنها در کردها بلکه در همسایگان فارس، ترک و لر زبان آن‌ها نیز داشته‌ است. زیرک به بخشی از هویت کُرد تبدیل شده‌ است.
زیرک به واسطه زندگی و اقامت در بسیاری از مناطق ایران و عراق، توانسته‌است به زبان‌های ترکی آذری، فارسی، ارمنی، لری ترانه اجرا کند. همچنین در بسیاری از ترانه‌های او نام‌های جغرافیایی مانند نام شهرهای ایران به وفور شنیده می‌شود. ترانه‌هایی با مضمون میهن‌پرستی سروده‌ است که به تمجید از ایران و مردم کُرد و مناطق کردنشین وقت پرداخته‌ است.
