REVIEWS

(Reviews for iOS version)

"[I] know strong bg play when I see it. This app is the strongest iPhone bg app I've played with by far. It does not cheat period. ...Analyzing these matches with eXtreme Gammon confirms a world class level of play with normal luck factors. If you are losing, get over it. So would 99.9% of the other backgammon players in the world. It is just that good. Learn from it." -Richard Munitz, Giant of Backgammon, #21 world ranking in 2009

"Backgammon NJ plays at an extremely high level with an excellent interface, and I often use it to practice on my iPhone when I am traveling. I recommend it highly to my students and friends." -Phil Simborg, Professional Backgammon Teacher and Player, www.mindgamescenter.com

"I've played over 500 games now; I've checked about 5% of these against World Class Desktop programs (GNU, BGBlitz); and I've actually used some of the competition. NJ has the best interface and has more useful functions than any other backgammon apps out there."

"As someone who has played a lot online (FIBS, Gamesgrid, and others) and live, playing this app (on its hardest setting) is like playing a master player or like playing GNU."

I'm disappointed because this app is rather expensive and it doesn't appear to have many features. It looks like it was designed in 1997 and i find the options menu confusing and unhelpful. I paid an additional $3 for analysis but the analysis mode doesn't seem to actual offer much. I was told you could play online multiplayer on this app but i don't see that option. Overall it's just an expensive boring letdown.

I really like this app. I really like the Elo rating. I've read Jimmy's proof of honest, random rolls. I can win in the easy mode but in Medium the CPU seems to get the perfect roll to kill me every time. What is different as I increase difficulty? It gives you the impression that the rolls are very biased as you increase difficulty. Thanks Jimmy if you can answer this question.

Excellent training program. The challenge is to play a full game hint free!

  4. David Jones-avatar

Nice app. Simple interface with lots of configuration options in the background.

  5. Kevin Lowney-avatar

Wonderful Interface, but Game Cheats. Read through the other reviews. "Proof" is offered by developer that it doesn't, but the reality is that it does.

  6. Rob Wicks-avatar

After purchasing one of the most expense backgammon games in the store, the developer says Google will remove some services, so they will no longer have an online option. Sorry, but that's part of the software dev/maintenane cycle! (I know I have developed software myself). Figure out how to implement the online functionality. Sure is nice now that you got your money to drop all the online users and say "no longer available". Developer offered refund.

Truly the best Backgammon app on Android. Full featured with almost everything I want and more. If you're into analysis, the extra $3 is worth it to go back through a match, jump to mistakes with the option to play it differently from a certain point in the match. Fantastic!

Good for tuning skills, but despite protests definitely cheats in subtle ways. Computer is good, almost worth playing with manual dice. And UI is excellent. But at high level of difficulty the cheating is just unacceptable. I'm roughly an 1850 player. I understand confirmation bias and probability. When the player is on the bar early in the game, probability of dbl 6 should be 1:36. Actual much higher. When computer has two on the bar, much more likely than expected ~3:36 to roll good dbl

best game I've found. I'm an eloquent 1500 player and find the game difficult to beat at hard level. I like that the CPU doesn't automatically rule giving g me a chance to second think my move. it makes crazy good good rolling blocks. I often fi d myself with 3 stones on the bar. it also makes match-strategic doubles.

Excellent game. Has improved my play. Prefer the board color options in iPhone version, android is a little harder on my eyes. Otherwise excellent. Reading reviews alleging the app cheats is additional humor I really enjoy. If you think the game is biased please keep writing. Those reviews are a hoot.
