PHEM (the Palm Hardware Emulator M68k) emulates the hardware of many different models of Palm PDAs. It supports up to Palm OS 4.2 and runs thousands of Palm applications, utilities, games, and hacks.

***IMPORTANT!*** Like other hardware emulators, PHEM requires software in the form of a Palm OS ROM image to run.

Supports:

  • Black and white, grayscale, 8-bit, and 16-bit color. It even supports the Handera 330's "High Res" grayscale screen!

  • Sound and (for versions of the Palm OS that support it) vibration.

  • Multiple different "sessions" emulating different Palms - multiple models, multiple versions of a single model, or both.

  • Using your device's storage as a virtual expansion card.

  • Network communication using your device's network connection (wifi or cellular), including network HotSync.

  • Cutting and pasting text between the emulated Palm and your device.

  • Hardware keyboards if present on your device.

  • "Skin" files that precisely mimic the appearance of particular Palm devices.

  • Most Palm "Hacks".

PHEM is based on the Palm OS Emulator, a development and debugging tool originally created by Greg Hewgill and later developed by Palm, Inc. Full source is available under the GNU Public License.

Notes on permissions used:

  • "Access Fine Location" is used to pass GPS information to the emulated Palm, only when explicitly activated by the user.

  • Network access is used to allow the emulated Palm to access network resources.

  • Storage access is used to access ROMs, applications, and to emulate memory cards.

    Works for display and animations ok, sounds not so great. Crashes occasionally, much more than the original hardware did.

    Awesome app. Worked with old Franklin Planner v8.1 software on Windows 7. Even hotsyncs. Using PHEM with Palm os v41 M515 rom on a cheap UL40 cell phone to boot . Syncs with the Windows 7 as the desktop OS. Couldn't be happier with the product and the price. Competing emulators at $49 wont't or don't hotsync. Now i got my favorite PIM software and can still print out my daily schedule. Can't do that with most of the current online personal information managers.

    Excellent implementation of the PC Palm Emulator. Good Android integration. I can run my legacy Palm Apps that have no replacement in Android. Using ROM from my own Palm IIIxe with Palm OS 4.1, very stable and have had very few glitches. The same ROM works perfectly in the Palm Emulator for Windows by Greg Hewgill, which I believe was the basis for this emulator. That was licensed under the GPL and is still available from some archive sites.

    Occasionally fails to start or crashes and can't even relaunch the app, need to force close from System Settings. Otherwise it works a treat with most Palm apps. Pity that this app doesn't seem to have any updates in a long while though.

    This disappeared from the app store for a while and I'm so happy to see it back! Pocket Dimension works very well on Android with a touchscreen.

    Works well enough but the scroll keys register multiple events for each press and don't take into account the smoothing values in advanced settings.

    Works really well - it's a real joy to use some of the Palm apps again without needing to carry around another device.

    I shouldn't have purchased this but I really wanted some of the old games. Freezes after about 20 minutes and all progress is lost.

    I would love to have this work but there is absolutely no information or guidance as to how to set it up, get a "rom file" loaded, etc. Loaded to where? From where? Are we supposed to create our own storage/ emulated folder? It's too bad.

    It stops working after opening it a few times. The Developer cannot be reached for feedback.
