Locast.org is a public service to Americans that provides over the Internet the local broadcast signals of select markets. All you have to do is sign up online, provide your name and email address, and certify that you live in, and are logging on from, an available city ("Designated Market Area"). Then, you can select among local broadcasters and stream your favorite local station. Locast.org is a "digital translator," meaning that Locast.org operates just like a traditional broadcast translator service, except instead of using an over-the-air signal to boost a broadcaster's reach, we stream the signal over the Internet to consumers located within select markets. Ever since the dawn of TV broadcasting in the mid-20th Century, non-profit organizations have provided "translator" TV stations as a public service. Where a primary broadcaster cannot reach a receiver with a strong enough signal, the translator amplifies that signal with another transmitter, allowing consumers who otherwise could not get the over-the-air signal to receive important programming, including local news, weather and of course, sports. Locast.org provides the same public service, except instead of an over-the-air signal transmitter, we provide the local broadcast signal via online streaming. You need a broadband Internet connection for optimal performance. Using a laptop, smartphone, or computer connected to the Internet, point your browser to www.Locast.org to sign up. You then can choose which local broadcast station to watch from your Internet-enabled device.

Downloaded and tried to create an account. I would input my email and password as well as confirmation of password and when submit is clicked it spins over and over but in the end goes back to the submit screen (called Register) and nothing actually happens. Don't know if it's the same for any service you use this with but it was happen in my Motorola 5g Ace.

So far it's ok. The biggest issue is interrupting the stream for the $5 donation ad. It takes you completely out of what you're watching. Then when you can finally get back to it you sit through another ad then you get back to your show which isn't where you left off. I already donated my $5. Stop interrupting my shows. If this continues when football starts I'll probably have to delete this app and try something else.

I use sling tv and i have never wanted to add an antenna to get local tv. This is a great way to get local channels. The donations does not compare to what cable company was charging me. It works with my firestick and roku no issues. I would recommend to anyone.

I learned about locast with sling. There was a pop up on sling that said that locast can give you local channels for free. I downloaded it through the app and the channels were integrated with sling. It was easy at first, but over time the ads for donations, which crashed the app. Locast said they weren't affiliated with sling even though it was integrated with the app. It crashed alot and had to be forced closed alot. Now they shut down for good bc of a lawsuit. Can't even use it.

I totally understand this runs on donations and if I could afford to donate I would. However, stopping the program that is on every 10 to 15 minutes to say you run on donations and turn the program that is being watched off and make the person go all the way back to search for it to start watching again is not a good thing. In my opinion a person is better off getting an antenna. **Now you totally stop the app? Just because you can't ask for donations every 5 seconds?🤦

Truly great application that provides every American with the right (it is your "right" to view network tv at no cost) to view free network programming. Network antennas are incredibly unreliable and expensive, Locast eliminates that issue altogether. I am 100% willing and do provide a $5 donation per month. To all the negative reviews that I see from people that don't want to donate a measly $5 per month to keep this public service operational, go pay exorbitant prices for cable.

Great App!!Loved it!! *Shame big corporate streaming company's/with tons of lawers forced to shut-down**😠 Was well worth, a $10 donation, (IMO) Used on my (Firestick Tv with Stremium-App), and was able to record (my favorite local free-digital air channels)Way easier, less issues and definitely cheaper than buying media-box-cube, etc., But as the say, no good Apps for free, last forever🙏

Other apps can figure out how to display ads without literally closing the content you're consuming. I'd recommend being less invasive and you might actually get more donations. For me this app is a last resort because you have to navigate entirely back to the show you were watching after an ad to donate plays. If using Chromecast this means having to reconnect to the device and watch another ad after the timed ad plays. This is ridiculously awful.

I am very disappointed with the latest news about this. Locast was the best thing to watch LOCAL TV this big companies the big fish they want everyone to have cable but not everyone have the money to paid for cable and this was an option to a least watch LOCAL CHANNEL. Sometimes this HDTV antenna don't work inside of the apartment complex or even on the house like the TV commercial show I hope Locast can come back on the air and offers again this app to watch TV again . Thanks Locast

Love this app!!! It's great for getting good quality broadcasts when your antenna just can't get a good enough signal. I'm close to a major market, but still don't get some of the major stations well over the air. This app is very reliable and easy to use. Love the favorites option.
