Disclaimer: Patch analysis will work on any phone. However, active network tests and attack monitoring require a compatible* rooted device with Qualcomm chipset.

What. SnoopSnitch analyzes your phone's firmware for installed or missing Android security patches. On compatible* rooted phones, SnoopSnitch can also collect and analyze mobile radio data to make you aware of your mobile network security and to warn you about threats like fake base stations (IMSI catchers), user tracking, and SS7 attacks.

How. SnoopSnitch allows you to analyze your phone's firmware and provides a detailed report with the patch-status of vulnerabilities (CVEs) by month.

Network security and attack monitoring: To use these features, a rooted device* with a Qualcomm chipset running stock Android 4.1 or higher is required. Custom ROMs are often unsupported as they can lack necessary proprietary drivers. (CyanogenMod seems to work for some users.)

Contribute. SnoopSnitch uses data contributed by users. Patch analysis results and firmware build details are uploaded to our server. This enables further tool improvements and research of the Android patch landscape.

You may also choose to help improve our global network security and threat statistics by uploading your network measurements or security events. SnoopSnitch will ask for confirmation before uploading any such information to our servers. All uploads are encrypted.

Permissions. The app asks for a number of permissions, most of which are only required for network tests and attack monitoring:

Initially stopped working with Android 11 but uninstall and reinstall fixed that. Currently doesn't find any patches for Android 11, as expected. Previously successfully tracked all Android 10 patches on my Pixel 3a w/o issue. 10/20/21 stopped working on newly installed Android 12; uninstall and reinstall but still fails creating results overview

Excellent app for seeing if you get caught in any IMSI Catchers that will: bug your phone, listen in on your calls, steal all your SMS's, call logs, & MMS's. The police use them illegally to try to find crime or to sting people. Without a warrant!

Good way to keep tabs on what Android patches you may be missing. You can measure the security commitment your phone provider makes by seeing what patches they haven't issued for your phone.

Ran the scan on my device. Got a sea of purple "Test Inconclusive"s and one single orange "After claimed patch level". Absolutely clueless as to what the takeaway is. I've learned nothing more after the test compared to what I knew before it!!!🥴

V 2.0.22 can't run test because it is not the newest version. And I of course have a phone bootloader is locked away on boooo... but points for pronciple

I wish scanning would work on more than just Qualcomm chipsets, but I still think it's a good app and definitely a great concept.

  7. HydraSec-avatar

    HydraSec

Requires root access for the most basic functions. This app is not only a waste of time, but very suspicious.

  8. Nucleus Rhyme-avatar

    Nucleus Rhyme

It doesn't work. At a certain point you will be informed that unless you have a certain chip, you have no use for the app. And it's the certain chip, not a list of phones.

Please add an option to select the month for which security patch needs to be checked...
