Ordbog over det danske Sprog (ODS) – "den store danske ordbog". ODS er den største danske ordbog der nogensinde er udgivet. Bogversionen er på 28 bind + 5 supplementsbind (i alt næsten 1,5 hyldemeter), og ordbogen indholder hele 225.000 opslagsord. 

Nu findes den som app – lige til at have med i lommen. 

Ordbogen er en historisk ordbog der beskriver det danske sprog år 1700-1950. Man finder derfor ikke betydningen af moderne ord som "pc", "nederen" og "kiggekø". Derimod finder man udførlige forklaringer på dagligdags ord som "læbe" og et væld af sjældne eller gamle ord som "halløjhat", "afskørte" og "misdædisk". Man kan også opdage at ordet "nedladende" på ODS' tid betød 'mild og nådig', og at "patetisk" endnu ikke kunne betyde 'ynkelig', men derimod "følelsesfuld og højtidelig". 

De fleste ord og betydninger er illustreret med citater fra klassiske, danske forfattere. 

Ordbog over det danske Sprog er en del af ordnet.dk og udgives af Det Danske Sprog- og Litteraturselskab (DSL) , som har mere end 100 års erfaring med at udgive ordbøger og står bag de største danske modersmålsordbøger. Projektet er støttet af Carlsbergfondet.

The dictionary is a historical dictionary that describes the Danish language year 1700-1950. It is not therefore the importance of modern words like "pc", "bummer" and "kiggekø". On the other hand you will find detailed explanations of everyday words like "lip" and a host of rare or old words like "halløjhat", "afskørte" and "misdædisk". You'll also discover that the word "condescending" on ODS time meant "gentle and merciful," and that "pathetic" yet could mean 'pathetic' but "feeling full and solemn."

Most words and meanings are illustrated with quotations from classic Danish authors.

Dictionary of the Danish Language is part of ordnet.dk and published by the Danish Language and Literature (DSL), which has more than 100 years of experience in publishing dictionaries and behind the largest Danish native language dictionaries. The project is supported by the Carlsberg Foundation.
