Les prières qui composent le chapelet sont organisées en ensembles de dix Hail Marys, appelés décennies. Chaque décennie est précédée d'une prière du Seigneur et suivie d'un Glory Be. Lors de la récitation de chaque ensemble, un des mystères du Rosaire est évoqué, qui rappelle les événements de la vie de Jésus et de Marie. Cinq décennies sont récitées par chapelet. D'autres prières sont parfois ajoutées avant ou après chaque décennie. Les perles du chapelet sont une aide pour dire ces prières dans la séquence appropriée.

Le chapelet est commencé sur le brin court:

The Glory Soyez sur la prochaine grande perle.
La prière des décennies suit ensuite, répétant ce cycle pour chaque mystère:

Annoncez le mystère.
La prière du Seigneur sur la grande perle;
Le Ave Maria sur chacune des dix petites perles adjacentes;
La gloire Soyez sur l'espace avant la prochaine grande perle; et
De conclure:

The prayers that make up the rosary are organized into sets of ten Hail Marys, called decades. Each decade is preceded by a Lord's Prayer and followed by a Glory Be. During the recitation of each set, one of the mysteries of the Rosary is mentioned, which recalls the events in the life of Jesus and Mary. Five decades are recited by rosary. Other prayers are sometimes added before or after each decade. The beads of the rosary are an aid in saying these prayers in the appropriate sequence.

The rosary is started on the short strand:

The Mysteries of the Rosary are meditations on episodes in the life and death of Jesus from the Annunciation to Ascension and beyond, called Joyful (or Joyful) Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries and Glorious Mysteries. Each of these mysteries contemplates five different stages in the life of Christ.
