XEWM–XHWM es la radiodifusora que dio origen a Grupo Suprema Radio. Hace casi 50 años, la tarde del lunes 7 de julio de 1969 para ser precisos, llenaron el Valle de Jovel las primeras ondas hertzianas emitidas por la XEWM en los 640 KHz de la banda de Amplitud Modulada. En esos momentos con tan solo 250 watts de potencia, suficientes para cubrir con calidad el pequeño y diáfano valle en él está asentada esta antañona San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

En aquellos días el espectro radioeléctrico mexicano se encontraba muy limpio, poquísimas estaciones de radio hacían acto de presencia en los sintonizadores de nuestras casas. Por las noches era el momento de escuchar radio con nitidez aceptable, estaciones del centro del país como la XEW, la XEB o la XEQ, que nos traían música, programas y voces bien timbradas y muy bien aceptadas por la audiencia de estos rumbos. Era de reconocer en esas voces la pureza de la dicción y la elegancia en el manejo de nuestro idioma.

En la línea del tiempo, el nacimiento de WM estuvo enmarcado entre dos grandes sucesos mundiales: la antena comenzó a levantarse el 12 de octubre de 1968, justo en los momentos que el presidente de la república inauguraba, en la ciudad de México, los XIX Juegos Olímpicos y el segundo suceso fue aquél cuando el mundo esperaba con inquietud el primer alunizaje de un humano, el Apolo XI tocaría la superficie lunar exactamente dos semanas después que WM lanzara sus primeras notas al aire. Para esa ocasión, XEWM hizo su primer enlace internacional, esa vez con la VOA (Voice Of America) para llevar a nuestra gente los pormenores del épico alunizaje. Qué mejor augurio que este marco de referencia en el tiempo.
La Nochebuena del año 2000 regaló a WM a su primera hermana, la XHCRI, en los 91.5 megahertz de la banda de Frecuencia Modulada. XHCRI se convirtió así en la primera radiodifusora de FM de nuestra ciudad. Junto con su añeja hermana XEWM en la banda de AM, la XHCRI en la banda de FM, han tenido el honor de ser las pioneras de la radio en San Cristóbal de Las Casas. Estos sucesos consolidaron la idea de la creación del Grupo Suprema Radio, con el firme propósito de seguir haciendo la diferencia en radio.
A 46 años de distancia, si vemos en las profundidades del tiempo, WM se encuentra cálidamente arropada por la historia. Una historia de aciertos y desaciertos sí; pero de compromiso con la sociedad inmediata, de solidaridad con nuestra comunidad, de lealtad con el radioescucha, de soporte para el comercio, de inspiración para las nuevas generaciones, sencillamente una genuina historia de comunicación. WM se siente orgullosa no sólo del servicio que presta a la sociedad sancristobalense y la de sus alrededores, sino de la calidad de sus oyentes y anunciantes.
La WM ha sido y seguirá siendo la voz de los Coletos, una voz conciliadora y penetrante no sólo aquí sino en el mundo entero, hoy somos la voz con más presencia en la radio. Los recuerdos de media centuria ya se encuentran grabados en muchos sitios y dan fe de la estupenda participación que WM ha tenido en ellos. El impacto ha sido en todos los ámbitos de nuestra sociedad, hemos crecido a la par de la misma. Es así que el desarrollo tecnológico nos trajo a la telefonía automatizada, a la televisión, al video en casa, al audio en alta fidelidad, a la telefonía móvil y, por supuesto, a la Internet. ¿Qué más vendrá? Lo que sea, los retos han sido nuestro mejor incentivo, los tomaremos siempre con gusto pues tenemos el honor de ser la imagen amable del sonido.
Los cambios tecnológicos demandan evolución en los viejos espacios radioeléctricos de comunicación, así pues XEWM tuvo que migrar a XHWM, en el 2011 cerró un ciclo y dejó de transmitir en Amplitud Modulada por los 640 kilohertz y ahora viste a la Frecuencia Modulada desde los 95.3 megahertz. En México el espectro radioeléctrico que ocupaba la AM será destinado a otros servicios de comunicación, así poco a poco todas las estaciones de AM del país habrán de migrar también.

Christmas Eve of the year 2000 gave WM to its first sister, the XHCRI, in the 91.5 megahertz of the Frequency Modulated band. XHCRI thus became the first FM radio station in our city. 46 years away, if we see in the depths of time, WM is warmly wrapped in history. A story of successes and failures, yes; but of commitment to the immediate society, of solidarity with our community, of loyalty with radio listeners, of support for trade, of inspiration for new generations, simply a genuine history of communication. WM feels proud not only of the service it provides to San Cristobal society and its surroundings, but of the quality of its listeners and advertisers.
The WM has been and will continue to be the voice of the Coletos, a conciliatory and penetrating voice not only here but in the whole world, today we are the voice with more presence on the radio. The memories of half a century are already recorded in many places and attest to the great participation that WM has had in them. The impact has been in all areas of our society, we have grown along with it. This is how technological development brought us to automated telephony, television, home video, high fidelity audio, mobile telephony and, of course, the Internet. What else will come? Whatever, the challenges have been our best incentive, we will always take them with pleasure because we have the honor of being the kind image of sound.
