FX is a file explorer built to make working with files and media on your phone or tablet as easy as it is on your computer:

Android 8 / 9 Location Permission Notice

* NOTE: Android 8.0+ unfortunately required us to add the "approximate location" permission, as it's now required for apps that support Wi-Fi direct (because Wi-Fi direct leaks this information). FX does not ever actually query your location, and this permission will only ever be asked for on Android 8.0 and later when using FX Connect. This requirement previously applied only to Android 9.0, but because FX now specifies full support for the latest Android API, Android 8.0 also requires this permission.

App ChangeLog

  • FX 9.0
  • Major UI Updates
  • Improved Android 11/12 Support, e.g. "Manage All Files" permission usage
  • SSH Curve25519 support
  • SMB3 support
  • Dropbox API fixes
  • Now requires Android 5.0+.
  • Translucent themes have been removed temporarily, but may return at some point.
  • Android 13 support, removed ridiculous previously required location permission for Android 13+ Wifi Direct!

Five years and a few devices ago, I had my complaints about FX. But I decided to make good use of it again and so far I'm very pleased. This is one very good explorer. I suggest the use of password or fingerprint in order to make "hidden files" really hidden. That way you could save users the need to install a whole different app just to hide files.

so freaking exceptionally good. usually Android apps are idk kinda underpowered, but I've been using fx on the road to connect to my remote server and it powers through like a champ! I was sorting some camera shots and instinctively finger zoomed in the file browser and the thumbnails actually resized and got bigger. an example of the thought and care that has gone into this product. I imagine the maker(s) of the app actually use it themselves. I believe I have the paid version, worth it.

Was really good at everything until I got the android 11 update for my phone and some features like file acces to Andorid folder doesn't work and SD card write access is really buggy and sometimes barely works.... Please fix these issues...I use this file explorer all the time and can't switch to other ones.

Rating 5 stars because the app author is apparently a Rush fan too. The web port being 2112 by default? Show of Hands being in the screenshots? No way that's a coincidence. All jokes aside, the app is fantastic and I don't regret buying the license key at all. It's easily the best file manager and network browser I've used on Android. It's simple but powerful without any bloat.

biggest complaint is within the file manager browser when carefully thumb dragging through the icons looking for something the quick scroll slider gets hit easily and makes you scroll a million miles and hour way too fast, this is highly annoying and should have an option to remove from use entirely as it is not necessary when a simple quick swipe of the thumb in any area can move through the files quickly enough without the super speed scroll slider. Very frustrating.

Perfect for my needs, I can access my NAS files from anywhere and with different devices, once you learn how to use it is easy to get to your files, transfers, open documents. I have used many other apps but this one is a keeper, just wish there was a way to save the password since I mostly use within my network, a thumbprint reader would be nice since I'm a senior and my vision is not 20-20 is hard to see small print on small devices.

  7. Tough Love-avatar

    Tough Love

This is my fave file explorer. I'm just trying to get your attention that it can't access Android's data folders on Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Android 11, but a few other File Explorers can. I'll bring this back to 5 after this is fixed.

It has a lot of great features that makes browsing and organizing files easier compared to the file explorer I currently have, as well as great a UI. The short tutorial at the begining was helpful too. One issue I have with the app is that it's having trouble deleting files from my SD card even though I've already given the app access to it. It just get stuck in task without any progress. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app solves the issue temporarily (already did it 2 times).

A fantastic collection of system utilities! They(FX Devs) have a very clear and concise privacy policy, which I will admit made my purchase decision an easy one. I consistently utilize many of the "plus" features on a daily basis. This is my go-to file manager/editor/so-many-other-things, and definitely my first stop for all of my Android devices, big and small! Just great software from honest developers, their competition should be taking notes! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Great (free) file manager with near perfect customization options, including dark mode. Coming from the old ES Explorer this was a perfect switch. The only thing that I'd like improved is the ability to have open windows shown beside each other like a tab-bar (instead of having to swipe from the left edge and clicking on the opened window) and being able to swipe between them (like multiple homescreens on android). Plus the option to have them permanently open/saved (after closing app). Andro 10
