I am only a beginner but the app has been very useful to learn and practise kanji's. The only problem i am facing is, whenever i press the back button, instead of going to the previous page- the app closes and opens again. Is anyone else having the same problem? Please help.

If you don't know the stroke order you can't find the kanji and that's not useful at all.. It's just ok for me because I know how to write japanese

Very poor recognition software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It fails at recognizing basic kanji like Jin.

This app is amazing. I've been using ot for years, integrated in WWWJDIC dictionary. Yes, you need to know the kanji stroke order, but knowing the stroke order is probably essential if you want to get anywhere with kanji. Question for the developers: in the Codea and More section, is there a way to show the Heisig keyword for each kanji like you can do with Rikaikun (chrome extension). This would be really useful.

I've used kanji dictionaries (dead tree format) before, and kanji learning games on the DS. In the games, as in too many Japanese things, you have to get it perfect, the stroke exactly in the right location, direction, and order. That is bloody obnoxious, compared to this app; I can get by with my messy handwriting. I'm reading comments where this app isn't good for translations, but that's not what this app is for. Think simple reference, not Google Translate.

I've been using this app for years, and differently from other users, recognizing from drawing works well for me. I follow trace order and try to get the number of traces correctly. Only improvement I could suggest would be the ability to copy multiple kanji at once from the history, it could help when you want to copy a word at once to a different app.

Love this app. Very useful. Has helped me with a lot of kanji. Just wished at times it could know just by the shape rather than the stroke order. Sometimes I don't know those and it wont recognize it at all. The app keeps crashing, is anyone else facing this issue? Could you guys please fix it? Thank you in advance.

A simple but very useful app. I'm using this in conjunction with Heisig's Remembering the Kanji book (instead of handwriting everything on pen and paper) and it works great. There is one small optional in-app purchase to upgrade to Premium, which I purchased mainly to remove the small advertisements and for Anki support - a killer feature. Edit: The developer listens to feedback and has addressed all problems and bugs I reported via email and updates. Great stuff!

Useless most of the time since you have to know the correct stroke order of the kanji you're searching for. Which doesn't make sense because most of the time you don't know that. You can guess using stroke order conventions, but it's so hit or miss you might as well just use google image recognition or jisho's search by radicals instead of using this app.

Despite correct stroke orders, app cannot discern certain characters. Take the Kanji/Hanzi for "water", for example, app cannot even recognize such a simple character...as of now, Kanji Recognizer is inconvenient, unproductive, and frustrating to use. Until the app updates, consider using another. Ganbatte.
