This device must already be rooted: OTA RootKeeper doesn't have the ability to root devices. If several conditions are matched, OTA RootKeeper will make root survive OTAs and... pretty much well anything :) − except /system partition formatting. Requirement: - /system partition as Ext2, Ext3 or Ext4 - Upgrades not formatting or overwriting completely the /system partition. Typical systems where its perfectly effective: - Nexus S - Galaxy Nexus - Every Honeycomb tablet Typical system where the protection won't work: - HTC Desire - Samsung Galaxy Spica - Samsung Galaxy S / SII The application doesn't support original Superuser and not SuperSU for a very simple reason. The same feature OTA protection feature is already present in SuperSU. In most case, only manufacturer's original recovery is able to install OTAs. It should not interfere with OTA update process itself. A bonus feature is present, allowing you to un-root your device while keeping a su backup. This way you can naively hide root until you choose to restore it via without further complications. This nifty feature work on every rooted device. ** Temporary un-root statement ** This feature is designed for dev purposes in order to test their app with or without root. The goal here is not to encourage stupid and unacceptable behaviors by movie or content sellers trying to prevent you to purchase or watch digital media you purchased if your device is rooted. Supercurio - you're a legend dude. Installed without fear! Variable reports on net about Sky Go working / not-working using hide root funtion on this app, so use at your discretion. But if you've got here looking for a way to get Sky Go to work on a rooted phone, try this app - working perfect for me so far. Running DarkyRom III v8.4 and Siyah Kernel 1.8.9 on galaxy S3. Awesome, the app worked perfectly updating OTA to 4.2.2 on my Nexus 4! I'm using SuperSU, and after I updated, I had to go into that application and say "Install to /system" from the settings tab within the app (it's about 2/3 of the way down, under "System") after the update. That's not related to this tool, but it's something worth knowing if you're also a SuperSU user.

I bought a new Nexus 7 32gig a few days ago. Right out of the box it had android 4.1.1. Before I did anything, I focused on 2 very important things. 1. Unlocking it & 2. Rooting it. After doing both I started receiving notifications for the OTA Update. I was scared I would loose Root if I went through with it. After reading up on this app I decided to just go for it. I upgraded my tablet a few times now and currently have version 4.2.1. With EVERY update I was able to have my Root Access restored. 5 Stars.

It works perfectly for temporary unrooting so that you can apply OTA update. Make sure you have all stock apk's installed and running. I had disabled a couple and it would not let me OTA update. Make sure your boot loader is locked and then temporarily unroot using this app. Then update OTA!

Just got the update notification on my phone, and this 100% worked. I'm on a rooted (stock Jellybean rom, locked bootloader) GSM Galaxy Nexus going from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 OTA. Directions (just incase anyone needs them); Download OTA RootKeeper. Open it. Allow root access. Hit 'Protect Root' Then go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates and update your phone. Wait for it to finish and your phone to turn back on. Open OTA RootKeeper. Hit 'Restore Root' Done. You can uninstall the app now if you wish, and just re-download it for the next update.

Was real excited to use but when I tried to update it said "Tried it, but it said on my S3, your device has been modified. Software updates are not available. Phone is rooted of course, but still using stock ROM. I will give this app 5 stars if you can help me cheers.

I unrooted the phone fron supersu, but in the OTA app, out of four boxes 1 remains ticked. That box is "system/ supports root protection". When I try to check for updates, it says "device is modified. Updatea not available". Plz help!!

I just updated my rooted Nexus 7 to 4.1.2 via OTA and I was able to restore root in a breeze. I use SuperSU Pro which has a OTA survival option but apparently it didn't work, luckily I had the Voodoo Rootkeeper backup and just a click after I got root again. Thanks for this great app.

Temp unroot caused my phone to go in a state where it was no longer rooted, but everything that sees my phone thinks it's rooted. That means no OTA updates for my S3 (still stuck on 4.0), and no apps requiring root work. Worst of both worlds.

I was scared to use to get the new lg8 update but said forget it and it worked. Was getting a insufficient storage space era when trying to install apps until i updated busybox ,still rooted and happy. Good stuff guys
