This application is a remote control that controls the functions of the 33863 App-Enabled Engine from BRIO. Please note, you need the physical engine (seen here: https://www.brio.net/products/brio-world/travel/vehicles-and-accessories/app-enabled-engine) to be able to use the app. Download the app to any tablet or smart phone for immediate play. You are the conductor for the App-Enabled Engine from BRIO. Use the app as a remote controller for the engine during play. The app features a control panel imitating the inside of a driver’s cabin. With the remote, you choose to put the engine in high and low speed, bring it back and forth or to a complete stop – all with various sound effects. You can also honk the horn and turn on and off the headlights with buttons on the control panel in the app. A device with Bluetooth LE and Android 4.3 or higher is required. Total rubbish. What for does the app need my location? Even when enabled, the phone (Android 10) recognizes the machine, but does not connect. No instructions in the package whatsoever. Really a bitter disappointment from Brio. Update 2021-04-03: Tried several other smartphone devices, reinstalled the app, followed the advice of other users (fresh batteries, app on first, then the machine...) - to no avail. Seeing no reaction from Brio makes an impression they don't care for the customers at all

Poor, really poor for a £40 item. Cannot get train to connect to an android device. Won't connect to app. Expect better from Brio. Surely the dozens of poor reviews mean brio need to fix this this issue.

It works great, BUT it took about 4 tries to connect the train to the app via Bluetooth on my Samsung Galaxy A71 phone. Both my son & I are happy with the purchase.

Works perfectly, but nearly impossible to figure out how and nothing is explained to you in the app or even in the app description. First you need to make sure both Bluetooth and location services are switched on on your phone, then turn the train on. Then open Bluetooth settings on your phone and tap the trains Bluetooth to pair. Finally open the app and the connection icon should turn green. Make sure to switch the train on BEFORE opening the app.

CHECK/CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES BEFORE ASSUMING THE APP DOESN'T WORK. Just saying... We also thought the app didnt work and finally put in brand new batteries (mind you the ones we had in were new the night before so they obviously need to be new). Main reason Im giving it 4 stars...

Doesn't work. I've connected my phone to the train, but the app doesn't register the connection. For a £40 RRP train you'd have thought they'd spend more effort on testing the app.

App doesn't work. Train doesn't work. Put new batteries in the train and put new batteries in 5 minutes later. Clearly poorly designed gimmicky rubbish that you would not expect from brio. Shame that it's obvious since release this doesn't work yet brio still sends this rubbish out.

Not working at all. I tried connecting phone and tablet. Both paired, but app not controlling train. Brio, since when you are selling broken garbage? I regret choosing Brio instead of LEGO.

Engine won't connect via bluetooth on any iOS device I tried (two iPhones and one iPad) though it will connect on Android. Unfortunately, even once connected, the app is broken - it also won't operate the engine.
